And then the big event.
The guys watching the parade had just as many adventures getting there as the guys in the parade, the power going off, no taxi's, when we got a taxi we got a flat tyre on the way. Getting there eventually and then walking for ever to find our gate and then finally we were there......
The crowd, the lights everything was amazing. As we found a place to stand the live music of Vila Isabel started and everybody started singing. The parade is so long that we weren't able to see anything for 30 minutes, only hear the loud music and the energy coming towards us.
And finally they are there, the club president and the first of the samba queens. It is the start of a 45 minute parade going past us: 3500 people, 39 different costumes, I think 7 floats and the battaria (drum section). Eventually we see our banana tree friends in the parade but we are far to far away to point out any individuals.
The battaria was a powerful highlight. It's an awesome experience to hear over 100 drums and instruments playing samba together and having the sound amplified by the sambadromo.

Hey there Babe,
looks like you are still doing a HEAP of awesome stuff. I have just returned to "real life" - new job and new city. Just got home from my first day and it was pretty cool. Can't wait to catch up with you later on this year back in Oz...

Hey Girls,
Why didn't I parade flick?
I only arranged to go with these guys 2 days before leaving so it was too late and also the cost of the costume and going in the parade was 350 reais compared to 25 reais for watching.
Hugs, Lucy
PS have fun starting uni again this week.
