Rio / Ipanema
Arriving back home at 1 am after a week in Curitiba then up again at 4am for the trip to Rio.
We left at 6am - too late to miss the traffic leaving Sao Paulo for the week holiday.
8 hours later we arrived in Simone's house in Rio.
1 group went to get the costumes (took 5 taxis to get them home again) the other group headed to Ipanema for dinner.
First night of Carnaval is gay night, we were in the gayest suburb in Rio we were going to have a great night.
We walked out of dinner and into a street parade by surprise and decided to follow.
Crowds were crazy and so were the pickpockets. We walked out of the parade 5 minutes later missing 2 wallets, 80 reais, 30 reais, 50 reais and a necklace. Luckily I had nothing stolen (first time for everything). It put a dampner on what was a great bloco (parade) but we continued on and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Then we found someone else's wallet! Money gone of course.
After the parade we chilled out on the beach at Ipanema and relaxed in the heat.
